Agency Services
Each of your clients came to your agency because of a human service need that is coupled by their inability to find employment. In today’s tough economic times with limited employment opportunities, your clients who lack basic academic skills and/or workplace soft skills may find themselves continually rejected from possible employment.
A recent Policy paper issued by the McGraw-Hill Research Foundation states, “…a preemptive focus on adult education actually saves governments money by reducing societal healthcare, public assistance, and incarceration costs.” The paper refers to basic academic skills and what has become termed as workplace soft skills – the core knowledge, skills and attitudes that allow an employee to understand instructions, solve problems and get along with others in the workplace.
Northern Nevada Literacy Council (NNLC) can provide adult education services for your clients that will improve their skills and increase their probability of becoming gainfully employed. We offer the following services to our collaborative agencies:
- We welcome your clients in our Traditional Program of Instruction classes at no cost to your. These classes are provided at NNLC’s Adult Learning Center morning or mid-day Monday through Thursday for 2 ½ hours each day. Adult Basic Skill classes and ESL classes are from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Our Transition classes, which are higher academic levels and also prepare the adult student to take the official GED Test battery, are from 12:00 noon – 2:30 p.m. Two levels of ESL instruction are also offered evenings from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. Please see the “For Students” tab on this website for further explanation of our Traditional Program of Instruction classes.
- We provide one-on-one and/or small group tutoring services in basic skill development on a cost-recovery basis for your clients who are unable to attend our traditional program due to a disability or low functional level of literacy. These sessions are commonly held at our Adult Learning Center and available times depend on the availability of our Instructor.
- We can provide components of our Traditional Program of Instruction at your site on a cost-recovery. Generally these programs are conducted during a mid-day time frame and a compliment of 10 students is required for the program to be cost effective for your agency.
- We can provide educational assessments for your clients on a cost-recovery basis if such assessment is not already a part of your intake process.
Contact NNLC to give your clients the educational advantage that may be their key to success.
